Mercury is a member of a race of intelligent chromatic dragons. They evolved to have reflective skin because it reflects the dun’s scorching rays from their bodies, helps break up their outline while hunting, and they can blind their prey, keeping it from getting away. The little creature alighting on its wing is a Cactus Wyvern. These creatures evolved to live on cactuses for protection, being green for camouflage, and even having their own cactus-like spines. They are scavengers who feed off of the kills of dragons, and have learned to lead dragons to food sources so that they can clean up the scraps. Because of this behavior, in Dragon culture, Cactus Wyverns are revered as wise guides, both in life, and in spirit.
